Lowcountry teams pocket USTA crowns
After Hilton Head Island tennis teams won two state league championships and finished as finalists two other times during the USTA South Carolina 70 and Over State League Championship, which finished Saturday, four more teams won championships in the S.C. 55 and Over Championships that concluded Monday.
In the Men's 3.0 division, captain Bob Baity's Coastal Carolina Tennis Association team Belfair downed Monty Koffman's Hilton Head Island team CCHH Take Two 2-1 to win the title.
In the Men's 4.0 division, the CCTA Hampton Lakers, captained by Tom Kendall, won the championship, while captain Cindy Vander Berg's Hilton Head Island PD Together Again team won the Women's 9.0 division.
Captain John Brittis' CCTA TCL Brittis team claimed the Men's 9.0 championship.
On Saturday, in the 70 and Over championships, captain Meg Miner's Women's 3.0 team out of the Sea Pines Country Club, Senior Class, won a finals matchup against Hilton Head Island's Spring Lake But Goodies team.
Dec McMullen's 4.0 men's team was the other Hilton Head Island team to win.
