USTA S.C. Combo Doubles State League Championships begin Thursday on Hilton Head
"I love being in Hilton Head in October when it's this kind of weather," Jackie Reynecke said Wednesday of the fortune forecasted to shine on Hilton Head Island this coming weekend..
She's about to have company.
The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center tournament director will be joined by more than 2,300 USTA league players when the USTA S.C. Combo Doubles State League Championships begin Thursday on Hilton Head Island.
The championships, which will feature players ages 18 and older, will be hosted by Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center with matches played across 10 Beaufort County facilities.
Reynecke said the community has become proficient in hosting large tennis events like this one.
"The island, as a whole, has been hosting stare championships for a long time and has become good at having a partnership for these events," she said. "As a collective group of sites, public and private, we've been hosting these events for years. Everybody is on board unless they have something going on that they simply can't work around."
In addition to the host location, matches will be played Thursday through Monday at Palmetto Dunes -- Centre Court, Port Royal Racquet Club, Country Club of Hilton Head, South Beach Racquet Club, Sea Pines Country Club, Wexford Plantation and Moss Creek. Beginning Saturday, Sea Pines Racquet Club and Long Cove Club will host matches, as well.
In total, 28 championships will be decided over the next five days across four different age groups -- 18 and over, 40 and over, 55 and over and 65 and over.
All finals will be played at Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center. The matches are free and open to the public.
