Pro Tennis League of Hilton Head championship set for Friday

Some of the area's best tennis players will compete for a championship Friday as the Pro League season comes to an end on Hilton Head Island.

Now in its fourth year, the Pro League will host its championship match between Merrill Lynch and Island Family Dental. In the third place match, Spinnaker Resorts faces off with Players World of Sports.

This season has been a tightly contested one, with three teams finishing in a tie atop the standings. Each week, teams play three doubles matches against each other in a best-two-of-three format. Merrill Lynch, Island Family Dental and Players World of Sports each won 10 matches, though Players came up short in the tiebreaker, having lost one additional set.

Founded in 2011, the league was formed to provide a way for some of the area's outstanding players, both professional and amateur, to square off.

The finals will be hosted by Long Cove Country Club, beginning at 6 p.m.
