Superstar athlete’s mom/ Royal Family coach visits Hilton Head, gives restaurant a shout-out

Judy Murray — the mom of tennis stars Andy and Jamie Murray and a noted tennis coach in her own right — visited Hilton Head Island from the United Kingdom last weekend and gave a shout-out on social media to a local restaurant.

Murray participated in an international tennis symposium organized by the Professional Tennis Registry, an organization that promotes tennis coaching and education and is based on Hilton Head, at the Sonesta Resort.

But other than tennis, Murray’s social media followers have come to expect posts about photo-worthy desserts from around the globe.

On Saturday afternoon, she tweeted out a photo with the caption, “Triple decker coconut cake with chocolate drizzle and whipped cream. Flora’s on Hilton Head Island.”

The photo of the decadent serving had garnered nearly 500 likes and nearly 40 comments.

“A bit far to go for cake & cream!” said one reply.

“Ah! Stop it, Judy! I’ve given up cake for Lent!” chided another.

Several commenters praised the lack of “unnecessary foliage” on the plate. This is a reference to several earlier posts such as one in which Murray ponders whether to remove the mint leaves from a fruity drink or leave them in and risk clogging up her straw.

Flora’s Italian Cafe is located in South Island Square at 841 William Hilton Parkway.

Murray presented a session titled “Creating Games that Will do the Teaching for You” at the Hilton Head symposium. Her bio on the PTR website says the former standout tennis player coaches and advocates for women in tennis, including through Miss-Hits, a program for girls ages 5 to 8, and She Rallies to encourage more women and girls to coach and play tennis. She’s been spotted with the British Royal Family many tines and has offered tips to Kate Middleton for teaching Prince George how to play tennis, according to Hello Magazine.
