Fripp Island’s Memorial Day fishing tournament to feature $5,000 payout

Fishermen are invited to compete for a $5,000 payout at Fripp Island’s annual Memorial Day fishing tournament, to be held May 27-28 as the traditional kickoff for the Lowcountry’s tournament fishing season.

The proceedings begin May 26 with registration and a captains’ meeting, followed by a Lowcountry cookout and entertainment.

Fishing starts May 27 and weigh-ins close at 5 p.m. on each competition day. Awards will be given for the three best catches of dolphin and wahoo. Should weather force either day’s fishing to be canceled, May 29 will be used as a makeup day with awards to follow.

Proceeds from the event go to the Fripp for a Cure campaign, benefitting the Keyserling Cancer Center in Beaufort. For more information, call the Fripp Island Marina at 843-838-1517.
