Former Bluffton LB Taylor McDonnell gets tryout offer from New York Jets

Newberry linebacker and former Bluffton standout Taylor McDonnell, who led the Wolves in tackles last season, will get a shot at the NFL after receiving a tryout invitation from the New York Jets.

McDonnell was one of 19 undrafted free agents to cast their lot with the Jets, with the former Bobcat among six who will head to this week’s minicamp without a contract. If he catches the coaches’ eye, he can be added to the team’s offseason roster.

McDonnell amassed 81 tackles at inside linebacker last season, including an 11-tackle performance in a September loss to Jacksonville. He also shared the team lead with 13  1/2 tackles for loss, with 6  1/2 of those coming in the season’s final two games.

As a junior, McDonnell also recorded 13  1/2 tackles for loss while ranking fourth on the team in tackles.
