Georgia Soul takes crown at women’s basketball regional
The Georgia Soul emerged victorious from last weekend’s Women’s Blue Chips Basketball League regional at Beaufort High, as Lacoya Terry broke loose for 33 points and Morgan Jennings added 13 points and 8 assists in a 96-83 win over the South Carolina Storm.
Terry knocked down nine of 21 shots in the Atlantic Regional final, including a trio from beyond the 3-point arc. That was just four points off her season best, coming after the former East Carolina standout was held to eight points in a 74-62 semifinal win over the Beaufort Bisons.
The Augusta-based Soul (11-3), in their first season in the women’s basketball developmental league, are one of eight regional champions to advance to the WBCBL’s final stage, which begins Aug. 6 in San Antonio.
