Gus Dean’s pit-crew member recovering from concussion

Jon House, the pit crew member struck when Gus Dean’s car experienced brake failure during Friday’s ARCA Racing Series stop at Pocono Raceway, remained in a nearby hospital Saturday as he underwent post-concussion testing.

House, 29, posted a photo on Twitter early Saturday of himself in a hospital bed accompanied by the words, “No bueno.” A later response to a well-wisher noted he had cracked his helmet in the mishap.

The jack operator, along with tire changer Pedro Martinez, were struck when Dean’s No. 98 Chevrolet continued through his pit box during a caution-period stop 15 laps into the ModSpace 150.

House stayed on the pavement for several minutes while track medics attended to him. He eventually walked to a waiting ambulance, where he was taken to the track’s infield care center and later sent to spend the night in intensive care.

ARCA officials said he was moved to a standard room early Saturday for more evaluation, but is expected to make a full recovery. Martinez was treated and released from the infield care center.

Dean wound up 15th in the race standings, finishing six laps down to winner Chase Briscoe after repairs to the brake system.

“The issue on pit road was due to brake line failure as I was entering the pit stall,” Dean told his Twitter followers. “My only concern is the health of the jackman involved.”
