USC coaches undecided on playing time for Bluffton's Blackshear
In an effort to improve the defense, South Carolina made some personnel changes before last week's 31-14 win over Central Florida.
One of those changes was giving former Bluffton standout defensive end Shamiek Blackshear his first playing time as a Gamecock.
Blackshear played, finding his way into the offensive backfield a couple of times, but did not record any defensive statistics during the game.
USC defensive line coach Deke Adams told The (Columbia) State newspaper it was too soon to know whether the true freshman would continue to receive playing time.
"He did fine. He's got a ways to go as far as trying to get better and learn exactly the scheme we're trying to do, but he's getting better," Adams told The State. "He's an athletic kid. We wanted to see what he could do, and he did a decent job when he was out there."
