Hilton Head Island, May River football roll to blowout victories
Week 10 in high school football going in the Lowcountry on Friday. Here is a look at how things played out:
May River 56, Beaufort 14
May River had three 100-yard rushers in the region win over Beaufort.
The Sharks stayed in a first-place tie in Region 6-4A with Bishop England. May River has the tiebreaker with May River.
Gage Duncan and Andrew Johnson each rushed for two touchdowns and Andrew Johnson had one. Duncan finished with 156 yards rushing followed by Sean Mitchell (123) and Johnson (108). As a team, May River rushed for 436 yards and five different players had TDs.
Elias Johnson and Samari Bonds each had TD runs for Beaufort.
Hilton Head Island 65, Colleton County 6
Troy Timko and Thaddeus Czarnecki each rushed for 200 yards as Hilton Head Island rolled to a region win.
The Seahawks are 6-2, the most wins for the program since 2016. HHI is just a half-game behind May River and BE in the region standings.
Timko had three TDs and Czarnecki added two. QB Derrick Raniszewski was 9-of-14 passing for 158 yards and three touchdowns. Jeremiah Walters had three catches for 60 yards, two touchdowns and Carson Haines had three catches for 69 and a score.
Bishop England 28, Bluffton 24
The Bishops rallied from a 10-point deficit to knock off the Bobcats.
Bishop England is now tied with May River in Region 6-4A with each having one game left. May River holds the tiebreaker if they finish tied.
BE quarterback Quinn Mahoney threw a pair of touchdown passes, including the game winner to Jacob MacKara with 2:37 left, to put BE up 28-24. Mahoney also ran for a TD.
Kendall Holley had three touchdown runs for Bluffton. His 9-yard TD run gave the Bobcats a 24-14 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Hilton Head Christian 42, John Paul II 6
The Eagles broke open a close game with 28 points in the final two quarters to defeat the Warriors.
Thomas Heyward 51, Carolina Academy 6
Josh Gibson returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, including one to begin the game, as the Rebels rolled past Carolina.
Tony O’Banner had three touchdown runs and also caught a TD from Kiran Boggess. Colton Young also had a TD for THA.
Beaufort Academy 49, Andrew Jackson 0
Nych Underwood ran for three touchdowns and also caught a TD pass for the Eagles.
QB Dietrich Suford threw two TD passes, including one to Jace Paulk. Grady Lamm added a TD in the fourth quarter for BA.
Hilton Head Prep 56, Christian Academy 13
The Dolphins picked up their third win of the season with a win over Christian Academy.
Wyatt Butler had two touchdowns, including returning the opening kickoff of the game for a score. Anders Askeland also had two TDs for HHP. Wyatt Harmer, Davis Cargill and Brody Hausher also had TDs for the Dolphins.
Hardeeville 23, Branchville 22
Hardeeville picked up its second win of the season with a win over Branchville with a 45-yard field goal with 19 seconds left.
Hampton County 38, Whale Branch 21
Chris Terry threw two touchdowns and ran for one as Hampton County overcame a 14-7 deficit to defeat the Warriors.
Terry hit Tarell Grant for a TD to give Hampton a 17-14 lead in the third quarter. Jaylen Singletary had a long TD run and caught a TD pass.
Dayaun Brown and Jermon Bowers had TD runs for WB.
