New rankings released: Top 25 high school football teams in the Carolinas
Two teams, both from North Carolina, join The Carolinas top 25 high school football poll this week.
The poll, put out by McClatchy media companies in North and South Carolina, ranks the top 25 teams in both states, regardless of classification. The poll appears weekly throughout the regular season.
In at No. 23 is Clayton High School (9-0), which is about 30 minutes outside Raleigh. The Comets are 9-0 and feature a stingy defense that’s allowed about nine points per game.
At No. 25 is Charlotte Catholic, a traditional N.C. power that started the season 1-2. Since then, however, the Cougars (7-2), have won six straight games and won the Southwestern 4A conference championship.
