Five new teams join The Carolinas Top 25 high school football poll, a ranking of the top teams in North and South Carolina that put together by McClatchy-owned newspapers in both states.

Providence Day of Charlotte holds onto the No. 1 spot for a third straight week, but Greensboro’s Grimsley High drops from No. 2 to No. 3 as Summerville (SC, 3-0) moves up a spot to No. 2.

The newcomers include No. 8 Lexington (SC); No. 10 West Charlotte (3-0), enjoying its best start in more than a decade; No. 16 Hillcrest (SC); No. 20 Rolesville (NC); and No. 22 Chambers (NC)

The Carolinas Top 25 is compiled by longtime high school football analyst Chris Hughes with input from high school football writers in North and South Carolina in McClatchy newspapers.
