Beaufort Academy, May River football pick up key victories
Devonte Green’s touchdown with 40 seconds left helped Beaufort Academy to a 31-27 win over Thomas Heyward on Friday in high school football action.
Beaufort Academy trailed 27-24 after THA’s Tony Banner scored on a touchdown run a minute into the fourth quarter.
The score stayed that way and the Eagles got the ball back with less than four minutes left. The Eagles drove down the field and Green scored on a fourth-and-one for the go-ahead TD.
Zeke Gonzalez sealed the game with an interception.
Beaufort Academy quarterback Braydon Dineen ran for three touchdowns.
Anthony Fripp had a TD for the Rebels.
John Paul II 43, Northwood 6
On Thursday, Christian Tilton had three touchdown runs, including two of more than 60 yards, in the Warriors’ victory.
Tony Hill and Bryant Jolly also had two runs for John Paul II, which moved to 4-4 on the season.
Pee Dee Academy 26, Hilton Head Christian 22
Quarterback Hudson Spivey ran for two touchdowns and threw a TD pass as Pee Dee edged Hilton Head Christian.
The game was a rematch of last year’s playoff game won by HHCA, 52-23.
Hilton Head Christian trailed 19-0 in the second quarter before rallying to take the lead. Quarterback Dylan Clark’s touchdown run cut the lead to 19-7 and the Eagles got within 19-14 after Tucker Tevepaugh returned an interception for a touchdown right before halftime.
HHCA took a 21-19 lead on Clark’s run in the fourth quarter.
But Spivey scored the game-winner with three minutes left.
May River 48, Colleton County 7
The Sharks scored 41 points in the first half to improve to 2-1 in region play.
Jaiden Jones and Tanner Macy each ushed for 123 yards and combined for four touchdowns.. Darrion Perry added two TDs and Garret Diemel also had a TD.
May River closes the season with games against Bluffton and Hilton Head Island.
Lucy Beckham 19, Hilton Head 17
Jack Weil hit the game-winning field goal with 26 seconds left to help Lucy Beckham past the Seahawks.
Owen Bayes had a touchdown pass to Riley McCracken for the Seahawks and Troy Timko had a 3-yard TD run. Carter Saleeby also hit a 38-yard field goal to put Hilton Head up 17-16 in the fourth quarter.
But Lucy Beckham stopped Hilton Head on a third down with 2:30 left and were able to use a short drive for the game-winning kick.
Whale Branch 21, Allendale-Fairfax 0
The Warriors bounced back after a loss to Estill to defeat Allendale-Fairfax.
Whale Branch improved to 5-3 and 2-1 in region play.
