High School Football

Weather concerns alter Lowcountry football schedule. Here are the changes so far

The threat of bad weather associated with Hurricane Ian is forcing high school football teams in South Carolina to adjust to this week’s game schedule.

The annual Bridge Bowl game between Hilton Head Island and Bluffton will be moved to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Ian is expected to grow in intensity as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico, with the latest landfall projection early Friday morning along the western coast of Florida. The Carolinas will at least see tropical storm force winds (39-74 mph) from Ian, according to the forecast, and heavy rain.

The rain chance for Friday is 60% in the Columbia area and closer to 80% for the S.C. coast, according to the National Weather Service.

Tickets for the game can be bought online at Hilton Head Island athletics website at https://hhihsathletics.org/event-tickets. Tickets will be sold at the gate on Wednesday but no cash sales at the gate.

The Hilton Head Island Hall of Fame ceremony also will take place Wednesday at halftime. This year’s class will be Marvin Cohen (Class of 1993), Emily Crick (2013), Jack Felix (2011), Terry Jones (1987), Ryan Kelly (2006), Mike Newton (1996) and Carol Pringle (1981).
