Beaufort, Bluffton, Hilton Head Island football earn non-region victories

Beaufort scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat May River, 13-7, in high school football action on Friday.

The Eagles trailed 7-0 before Kacy Fields scored on the first play of the fourth quarter to tie it at 7-7. Fields scored his second touchdown, a 1-yard run with 9:38 left, to give Beaufort a 13-7 lead.

Fields ran it 29 times for 162 yards. Quarterback Samari Bonds was 9-of-20 for 79 yards passing and also had 23 yards rushing.

May River got the ball back with less than a minute left but turned it over on downs.

The Sharks scored on the opening possession of the game, capped off by a Tanner Macy touchdown, to make it 7-0.

But the Eagles shut them out from there.

Hilton Head Island 27, Wade Hampton 13

Troy Timko ran for 100-yards plus and three touchdowns in the Seahawks’ victory over the Red Devils.

Carter Saleeby kicked a pair of field goals for HHI.

Bluffton 38, Battery Creek 0

Jaylin Linder caught two touchdown passes as the Bobcats defeated the Dolphins.

Roderick Buxton also had a touchdown.

Bluffton retired DJ Fields’ No. 55 in a ceremony before the game. The ceremony was supposed to happen last month but was postponed because of weather.

Fields and his two friends were shot at by a passing car in March of 2021. They were mistakenly targeted as “ops” (or enemies) in a dispute between local teenagers, according to previous police testimony.

Pinewood Prep 40, John Paul II 24

Christian Tilton rushed for two touchdowns and also returned an interception for a TD in the loss for John Paul II.

Tony Hill also had a TD for the Warriors.

Hilton Head Christian 56, Northwood 6

Dylan Clark threw four touchdown passes and Harry Cunningham added three passing scores in the Eagles victory.

Seven different receivers caught passes for HHCA.

First Baptist 28, Hilton Head Prep 14

First Baptist jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the win over the Dolphins.

Thomas Heyward 50, Dorchester Academy 22

Tyson Mansell caught two touchdown passes and Tory O’Banner had two TD runs in the Rebels’ victory.

Dietrich Shuford threw the two touchdowns to Mansell and also ran for a score. Anthony Fripp also added a TD run for THA.

Beaufort Academy 43, Orangeburg Prep 14

Devonte Green had a big night on the ground and Braydon Dineen threw two touchdown passes in Beaufort Academy’s victory.

Green finished with 173 yards and three scores for the Eagles.

Whale Branch 53, Burke 12

Whale Branch scored 27 points in the first quarter and went to the easy victory.
