Beaufort football bounces back with win over Hilton Head Island
Beaufort scored three touchdowns in the first quarter on its way to a 24-7 win over Hilton Head Island on Friday night in high school football action.
The Eagles are 1-1 on the season while the Seahawks are 1-2.
Beaufort scored on its first play of the game as Colton Phares ran it in from 59 yards out to make it 7-0. Samurai Bonds threw a TD pass to Kacy Fields and Caleb Ulmer added a TD run to make it 21-0 after the first.
Beaufort made it 24-0 in the second quarter on Beck Schwerin’s field goal. The teams played with a running clock from the second quarter because Hilton Head was missing several players for the game.
Bonds was 5-of-8 for 65 yards. Fields had two catches for 40 yards. Ulmer had 57 yards rushing.
Owen Bayes scored on a TD run in the second half for Hilton Head’s only score.
Thomas Heyward 42, Northwood 0
The Rebels scored all of their points in the first two quarters to move to 2-0 on the season. Anthony Fripp had two touchdowns and an interception.
Calhoun County 32, Battery Creek 23
Battery Creek dropped to 1-2 after the loss to the Saints.
Whale Branch 49, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 14
Jakhi Pusha threw threw touchdown passes as the Warriors, ranked No. 4 in Class A, rolled past the Jaguars.
JaDarius Garrett caught two touchdown passes and ran one in for Whale Branch. Keith Chisholm had TD catch and Alonzo Allen had a TD run.
Ridgeland-Hardeeville’s Davon Grant returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
Woodland 50, Bluffton 31
Woodland scored 24 points in the first quarter and 22 in the third quarter to defeat the Bobcats on Friday.
John Paul II 46, St. Andrews 24
Jackson Ogden ran for four touchdowns and caught two TD passes from Christian Tifton in the Warriors’ victory.
The game was moved to Saturday because of wet field conditions.
The scored was tied at 12-12 in the second quarter before Ogden scored on a 5-yard run with 28 seconds left in the second quarter.
John Paul II took control after that. Tifton finished with two TD passes and also ran in a score. Tony Hill also had a TD run for the Warriors.
