Two Lowcountry teams to play for SCISA titles. Beaufort, Whale Branch advance

It was a good night for most Lowcountry high school football teams on Friday.

Four of the five area teams left in the postseason won and and are moving on to the next round, including Hilton Head Christian and Thomas Heyward who will look to repeat as SCISA football champions next Saturday at Charleston Southern.

In SC public school playoffs, Beaufort and Whale Branch both won on the road and will stay on the road next week in the third round.

Hilton Head Christian 52, Pee Dee Academy 23: Hilton Head Christian used a dominant second half to advance to the SCISA 2A championship game. HHCA will play Williamsburg Academy at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles trailed Pee Dee, 16-15, at halftime but took the lead less than two minutes into the third quarter when Jace Blackshear hit Speedy Robinson for a 29-yard touchdown. Blackshear added two more touchdown passes in the second half to Jackson Lanier and Riley Shinn to make it 45-23 early in the fourth quarter. Blackshear finished with four touchdown passes and Robinson had two touchdown runs.

Thomas Heyward 49, Thomas Sumter 9: The Rebels’ bid for their fourth straight state championship continues with a win over the Generals. THA will play Lee Academy next Saturday at noon at Charleston Southern. Tyson Marshall threw three touchdown passes in the first half as the Rebels built a 42-3 lead after two quarters. Tony Obanner and Anthony Fripp had TD runs and James Townsend returned a punt for a touchdown.

Beaufort 42, North Augusta 10: Amariee Morris ran for three touchdowns and quarterback Tyler Haley had almost 300 yards of total offense as the Eagles defeated North Augusta in the second round of the Class 4A Lower State playoffs. Beaufort will travel to top-ranked Myrtle Beach next week. Haley was 12-of-23 for 191 yards passing and also ran for 106 yards and two scores. Morris carried it 12 times for 66 yards. McLeod Reicher had seven catches for 118 yards and Zyrin Odom caught two passes for 47. Jalin Porter also returned an interception for a touchdown.

Whale Branch 27, Lake View 12: Joseph Hicks ran for a score, caught a TD pass and also had an interception as the Warriors advanced to the third round of the Class A lower state playoffs. Whale Branch travels to CE Murray next week. Darrell Cummings and Jakhi Pusha also had TDs for Whale Branch. The Warriors picked off Lake View’s DJ Bethea three times in the game. LV’s Teammate Tyrell Foxworth had an interception return for a score and Marvin Gordon added a rushing touchdown.

Williamsburg Academy 28, Beaufort Academy 7: Caleb Kline rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns as the Stallions knocked BA from the postseason. Braydon Dineen had a TD pass to Jaxen Porter for Beaufort Academy.
