Lowcountry football teams move on to the second round of the postseason

The high school football playoffs begin in South Carolina for public and private schools. Here is a look at how Lowcountry teams did Friday night:

Beaufort 30, South Florence 14: Tyler Haley threw two touchdowns to Zyrin Odom as the Eagles won their first round Class 4A playoff game. Beaufort will travel to North Augusta next week. Joe Caprarola hit three field goals for the Eagles, who led 24-7 at halftime. Haley was 10-of-14 passing for 154 yards and Odom had 61 yards receiving. Amariee Morris added 126 yards rushing and Colton Phares scored on a fake punt.

North Myrtle Beach 27, May River 7: Defending 4A Lower State champion made the Sharks’ postseason stay a short one. Tavarius Hooks rushed for 223 yards and a touchdown and Elijah Vereen went over 100 yards and a TD for the Chiefs, who were one of only two teams to knock a region champion in the first round. May River came into the playoffs as the Region 7-4A champion. The Sharks got off to a 7-0 lead on Garvin Douglas TD run. But NMB took over from there. Cam Freeman also had two TDs for NMB, which will travel to Hartsville in the second round next week.

North Augusta 31, Bluffton 12: Quarterback Austin Harrell ran for two touchdowns and also threw a TD pass as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Bobcats in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. NA will host Beaufort in the second round next week. DJ Curry also had a TD for the Yellow Jackets. Camari Simmons had a TD run for Bluffton and Roderick Buxton threw a TD to Jaylin Linder for Bluffton’s scoring. The Buxton-Linder TD pulled the Bobcats within 21-12 at halftime.

Aiken 25, Hilton Head Island 8: The Hornets won their first home playoff game since 2006 in eliminating the Seahawks in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. Aiken travels to Myrtle Beach next week in the second round. Notre Dame commit Jaylen Sneed returned to action after a shoulder injury, had HHI’s lone touchdown and also picked off a pass.

Hilton Head Christian 47, Carolina Academy 0: Joseph Robinson ran for two touchdowns and also caught a TD pass from Jace Blackshear as the defending state champion Eagles won their first round game in the SCISA 2A playoffs. Hilton Head Christian will host Pee Dee Academy in the semifinals next week. Blackshear finished with two touchdown passes and Riley Shinn returned two interceptions for touchdowns. Troy Chisholm capped off the scoring for HHCA.

Beaufort Academy 33, Florence Christian 25: Cody Dalrymple had the go-ahead touchdown midway through the third quarter to help Beaufort Academy to a win in the SCISA 2A playoffs. The Eagles will travel to Williamsburg Academy in the semifinals. Beaufort Academy jumped out to a 19-0 lead on Davonte Green TD run, a defensive touchdown and Jaxen Potter run. But Florence Christian answered with three touchdowns to tie it at 19 with 9:16 left in the third quarter.Braydon Dineed added an 11-yard TD run and picked off a pass in the fourth quarter to seal for BA.

Pee Dee Academy 48, John Paul II 16: Coleby Sinclair rushed for 244 yards and three touchdowns and Landyn Tyler added 93 yards and two touchdowns in Pee Dee’s win over John Paul II in the first round of the SCISA Class A playoffs. Caleb Snyder had a TD pass and Jackson Ogden rushed for a score for JPII.

Whale Branch 19, East Clarendon 0: The Warriors pitched a shutout in winning their first round Class A playoff game. Whale Branch heads to Lake View next week in the second round. Joseph Hicks had two touchdowns and Keith Chiholm returned an interception for a score in the rainy conditions.

Williamsburg Academy 49, Hilton Head Prep 16: Loncelle Daley ran for a TD and Tristan Bonomo had a TD pass as the Dolphins lost in first round of SCISA Class 2A playoffs.

Thomas Heyward def. Dillon Christian (forfeit): The defending state champions won their playoff opener by forfeit because the Warriors didn’t have enough healthy players. Thomas Heyward hosts Thomas Sumter in the SCISA Class A semifinals next week.
