Several Lowcountry football teams picks up victories in final week of season

May River football wrapped up an unbeaten record in region play Friday night.

Quarterback Garvin Douglas ran for two touchdowns as the Sharks defeated Hilton Head Island, 33-16, in the regular-season finale for both teams.

May River, the Region 7-4A champs, will host defending lower state champion North Myrtle Beach while HHI travels to Aiken.

May River started the season at 2-2 but finished the year with six straight victories.

Jaeon Allen had a first-round touchdown run and Darrion Perry also blocked a punt for May River, which trailed 10-6 at halftime.

Chase McCracken had both touchdown for the Seahawks, who played without Mr. Football finalist Jaylen Sneed. The Notre Dame commit arm was in a sling after suffering an injury in last week’s game.

Hilton Head Christian 42, Hilton Head Prep 0: The defending SCISA 2A champion Eagles finished up a perfect regular season with a victory over their rivals. Joseph Robinson ran for three touchdowns and Jace Blackshear threw a TD pass to Jackson Lanier in the win. Lanier also ran for a touchdown. Hilton Head Christian opens the playoffs at home next week.

Beaufort 44, Colleton County 6: Kacy Fields caught two touchdown passes as the Eagles rolled in their regular-season finale. Beaufort will host South Florence in the first round of the playoffs next week. Fields finished with 150 yards receiving. Quarterback Tyler Haley had 204 yards passing and two total touchdowns. Caleb Ulmer also ran for a touchdown and Zack Talbert had a defensive touchdown.

Thomas Heyward 53, Greenwood Christian 7: The Rebels put up 46 points in the first half to cruise to a win in the regular-season finale. The defending SCISA Class A champs will open up the playoffs at home next week. Seven different players scored including Tony O’Banner, Cody Parker, James Townsend, Brandon Howard, Nicolas Robinson and Anthony Fripp.

Battery Creek 34, North Charleston 0: Battery Creek earned a playoff spot with a win Friday night. Jeremiah Dilbert ran for five touchdowns in the Dolphins’ victory. Battery Creek will open up the Class 3A playoffs next week on the road at Crestwood.

Beaufort Academy 62, John Paul II 28: Beaufort Academy broke open a close game in the second quarter to defeat the Warriors. The score was tied at 14 after the first but the Eagles scored three touchdowns in the second to pull away. Devonte Green had two of his four touchdowns in the second quarter against and Jaxen Porter ran for two scores and caught a TD from Brayden Dineen, who also returned an interception for a touchdown. Mark Knight had three touchdowns for JP II.
