Lowcountry football roundup: May River, Beaufort, Hilton Head pick up victories

May River started strong on Friday night against Bluffton and didn’t let up.

Garvin Douglas threw a touchdown on flea flicker on the first play as the Sharks defeated Bluffton, 30-3.

May River moved to 2-0 in Region 7-4A and will face Beaufort next week in a matchup of region leaders.

Douglas rushed for more than 200 yards and scored two touchdowns in addition to the TD pass. Cam Scott added a TD run and Jaiden Jones turned in a solid performance on defense. .

Beaufort 16, James Island 0: Joe Caprarola kicked three field goals and the Eagles defense picked off two passes in the win over the Islanders.

Beaufort running back Caleb Ulmer rushed for 101 yards and quarterback Tyler Haley was 13-of-20 passing for 176 yards. Michael Dennison had two catches for 55 yards, McLeod Reichel and Kyrin Odom each caught four passes.

James Dennison and Jalin Porter both had interceptions for the Eagles.

Hilton Head Island 34, Colleton County 6: Chase McCracken and Jaylen Sneed each rushed for two touchdowns as the Seahawks won on the opening of their new turf field.

McCracken finished with 193 yards rushing on 28 carries. Sneed, a Notre Dame commit, rushed for 106 yards, had five tackles and blocked a punt. Matthew Larkby had two sacks and forced a fumble. Jayden Gilliam also had a TD run for HHI.

Hilton Head Prep 26, Orangeburg Prep 0: Loncelle Daley rushed for 204 yards in the Dolphins’ shutout win on the road. Quarterback Tristan Bonomo was 5-of-9 for 61 yards passing and two touchdowns. Jake Rodney Brown caught a TD pass and ran one in for HHP. Brown also had two sacks on defense.

Hilton Head Christian 41, Bethesda Academy 8: Quarterback Jace Blackshear had another big night as the Eagles rolled passed Bethesda. Blackshear threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more, all in the first half. Isaiah Anderson, Joseph Robinson and Riley Shinn had TD catches for HHCA.

Thomas Heyward 32, Colleton Prep 7: Brandon Howard threw a TD pass and ran for a score for the Rebels in their road win. Anthony Fripp and Tony O’Banner also ran for scores. THA has given up seven points or less in each of its six wins this season.

John Paul II 56, Northwood 0: The Warriors scored 29 points in the first quarter to defeat Northwood. Christian Tilton threw two touchdowns and ran for two in JP II’s offensive attack.

Thomas Sumter 47, Beaufort Academy 13: Braydon Dineen and Jaxen Porter each had touchdowns in the loss for Beaufort Academy.
