SCISA roundup, scores: Beaufort Academy, JP II, Thomas Heyward get first wins
It was a good night for Lowcountry SCISA teams as Beaufort Academy, John Paul II and Thomas Heyward football teams all picked up wins on Friday night.
Beaufort Academy 36, Bethesda Academy 28
Elijah Gess scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns and the Eagles used a late goal-line stand to defeat Bethesda.
It was Beaufort Academy’s first win as an 11-man program.
Beaufort Academy led 22-20 going into the fourth and Gess’ run and Ja’Sean Lawson’s two-point conversion made it 30-20. On Bethesda’s next possession, Braydon Dineen picked off a pass and Fess scored on a 3-yard run to make it 36-20 with 9:21 left.
Bethesda cut the lead to 36-28 with 7:56 left and then had a chance to tie it at the end of the game. Bethesda had four chances inside the 10-yard but Eagles turned them away for the win.
Jasean Porter and Carlos Jones also had TD runs for Beaufort Academy, and Devonte Green returned an interception for a score.
John Paul II 6, St. Andrew’s 0
Jeremiah Young’s touchdown run in the second half gave the Warriors and new coach Chris Meyers their first win of the season.
The win snapped the Warriors’ 10-game losing streak dating back to 2018.
Thomas Heyward 38, Dorchester Academy 14
Bruzza Pusha caught a TD and ran for a score as the Rebels bounced back from a season-opening loss last week for the win.
Thomas Heyward had a pair of defensive touchdowns as Anthony Fripp returned an interception for a score and Ayden Lassiter recovered a fumble in the end zone.
Brandon Howard added a TD run in the first quarter to get Thomas Heyward on the board.
Ben Marchant caught a touchdown pass and Ben Singletary had a touchdown run for Dorchester.

May River wins pair of matches
The May River girls golf team won a pair of matches this week.
The Sharks won a five-team match on Tuesday with a score of 173. Hilton Head Island was second with 182 followed by Beaufort (256) and James Island (271). MR’s Kylie Bowes was a medalist with a 39.
The Sharks fired a 163 on Thursday to defeat HHI (190) and Beaufort (260). May River’s Sydney Bowes shot a 36. Kyle Bowes had a 38 and Alexia Milbrandt led HHI with a 38.
