Lowcountry SCISA roundup: Hilton Head Prep, Hilton Head Christian win openers

Jace Blackshear had four touchdowns as Hilton Head Christian Academy defeated Dorchester Academy, 40-12, on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Three of Blackshear’s TDs came on the ground and he also caught a TD from JP Peduzzi.

Troy Chisholm also rushed for two touchdowns in the win.

Hilton Head Prep 30, Colleton Prep 20

Carson King ran for two touchdowns as Hilton Head Prep opened up the season with a victory.

Both of King’s touchdowns came in the fourth quarter. He finished with 46 yards rushing, caught four passes for 25 yards and had a fumble recovery on defense.

Tommy Staffer led the team with 93 yards rushing and a TD and was tops on defense with seven tackles. Quarterback Harrison Green threw for 84 yards and a TD to Gunner Askeland.

Hilton Head Prep is off next week.

St. John’s Christian 28,

Beaufort Academy 18

Nai’Ryan Bookert scored three touchdowns as St. John’s came from behind to beat the Eagles.

Beaufort Academy, which is making the move from 8-man to 11-man football, led 18-14 in the fourth quarter after a defensive touchdown.

But Bookert scored on a 45-yard run with 4:57 left and Malik Waheed’s 1-yard run three minutes later sealed the win.

Carlos Jones had a TD run for Beaufort Academy.

First Baptist 47, Thomas Heyward 26

Will Daniel threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns as the Class 3A Hurricanes knocked off the defending SCISA Class A champions.

Jaterus Pusha had an 11-yard touchdown run and Anthony Fripp also scored for Thomas Heyward.

Orangeburg Prep 54, John Paul II 21

Amir Tyler ran for four four touchdowns and quarterback McCullough Mims added two rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown for Orangeburg Prep.

Jeremiah Young ran for two scores and Mark Knight had a 75-yard touchdown run for John Paul II.
