The Coastal Empire won the inaugural Blitz Border Bowl on Saturday.

Maryland commit Joseph Petrino kicked three field goals, and Lamonee “Toot” Johnson ran for a touchdown give the Coastal Empire a 15-3 win against the Lowcountry.

Two of Petrino’s field goals were from 40 and 42 yards. Johnson’s run was a 12-yard score to put the Coastal Empire up 12-3 in the third quarter.

Johnson was named the game’s MVP and finished with 106 yards rushing.

Hilton Head Christian’s Evan Berkner provided the Lowcountry’s only score with a field goal, a 42-yarder in the second quarter.

Bluffton’s Tristen James picked off two passes for the Lowcountry squad and Beaufort’s Reggie Jones had one. Battery Creek’s Ahman Smalls had a sack and forced a fumble.

“I think the biggest thing is the kids had fun,” Lowcountry coach John Houpt told reporters after the game. “This is a great event and we foundation set and we can build on it.”
