Bluffton receiver Jermaine Patterson won’t be playing in next week’s Shrine Bowl.

Patterson will miss the all-star game to focus on playing basketball. Bluffton has two games next week.

Patterson, the top hoops player in the Lowcountry, scored 27 points Tuesday against Beaufort and 41 last week against Hilton Head.

Chapman receiver Patrick Phongsat will replace Patterson in the game, which will be held Dec. 16 at Wofford College. Phongsat caught nine passes for 126 yards in Saturday’s Class 3A championship game. For the year, he caught 66 passes for 1,078 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Spring Valley linebacker Channing Tindall and Dorman offensive lineman Jordan McFadden also will miss the game because of injuries. Tindall has been bothered by a shoulder injury late in the season, which forced him to miss a playoff game against Conway.

Dillon linebacker and Appalachian State commit Zareon Hayes will take Tindall’s spot in the game. Hayes had seven tackles and ran for two touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 3A state championship victory Saturday.

McFadden was injured near the end of Saturday’s Class 5A championship against Dutch Fork. Greenville’s Ty Hellams replaces McFadden. Hellams caught 61 passes for 1,017 yards and 14 TDs.
