Battery Creek’s season ends in playoff loss to Brookland-Cayce

HiltonHead

Diamonte Blackshear’s 5-yard touchdown run provided the only Battery Creek scoring Friday night as Brookland-Cayce cruised to a 42-7 victory in their Class 3A playoff opener.

Brookland-Cayce (10-1), the top seed from Region 5-3A, took advantage of its explosiveness to score the game’s first 42 points and cruised to the finish.

“We competed hard. We were just kind of overmatched,” said Dolphins coach Fred Hamilton, whose team claimed the region’s final playoff berth by beating Ridgeland-Hardeeville on the final week of the regular season.

Frankie Venable led the Battery Creek (2-9) on defense with eight tackles, along with an interception that stopped another Brookland-Cayce drive inside the Dolphins 15.

“They were as fast as they could be,” Hamilton said. “We had trouble tackling them in space.”
