Despite big win, Beaufort comes up empty in latest poll balloting
Despite last week’s romp over rival Hilton Head Island, Beaufort lost ground in this week’s state Class 4A football rankings, receiving not a single vote in the latest voting by the S.C. Prep Media Football Poll’s 12-member panel.
The Eagles (6-2) were No. 8 two weeks ago before falling into the “also receiving votes” category after a loss to Region 8 foe Cane Bay. But even after rebounding with their 31-8 victory over Hilton Head, votes that had been cast Beaufort’s way went elsewhere.
Berkeley’s victory over Cane Bay created the only movement in the 4A poll, with Cane Bay dropping from No. 4 to eighth and Berkeley moving in at No.10. But where there were five unranked teams receiving votes last week, this week brought only three.
Unbeaten Bluffton remained at No. 2 in Class 3A for the ninth consecutive week, trailing only top-ranked Dillon. The Bobcats (8-0) came off a 27-day layoff with a 71-0 thrashing of Ridgeland-Hardeeville, the second time this year that Bluffton has topped 70 points.
No other area schools received votes in this week’s balloting.
