Whale Branch overpowers Burke behind Irvan Mulligan’s big night
Irvan Mulligan’s season-high 198 yards and three touchdowns powered Whale Branch to a 46-6 victory over Burke, giving the Warriors their second victory in as many games since returning from the hurricane break.
Whale Branch (4-4, 2-1 Region 6-2A) scored Friday night’s final 39 points after an early Burke touchdown drew the Bulldogs within 7-6. C.J. Brown and Kavaun Wright had interceptions to keep the Bulldogs from generating much offense.
Mulligan’s performance topped the 192-yard outing he had against Battery Creek in mid-September, and gives him five consecutive games of rushing for at least 95 yards. The sophomore now has 891 yards and 14 TDs on the season.
“I think he’s a big prospect,” Warriors coach Jerry Hatcher said. “He hits a seam and he’s gone. And he’s a 4.0 student.”
