First responders to be feted at Prep’s finale, with free admission for all

HiltonHead

Hilton Head Prep will offer free admission to Friday’s football finale against rival Hilton Head Christian, when the school also will honor the county’s first responders who stayed behind as Hurricane Matthew bore down on the Lowcountry coast.

All first responders in attendance will be honored on the field at halftime, and their families will be given a free meal from the Prep concession stand. Kickoff for the rivalry game is set for 3:30 p.m.

“The sacrifices they and their families have made is immeasurable in its effect on this community,” the school said in a news release. “This is just a small gesture of thanks compared to the efforts of these dedicated responders.”

Hilton Head Prep students raised more than $1,400 to cover the event’s financial costs, including a special gift to be given during the halftime ceremony. Students were allowed to pay a stipend last Thursday that would allow them to dress out of uniform for the day.
