Beaufort slips out of Class 4A football rankings after Cane Bay loss
Beaufort lasted just a single week in the state’s Class 4A football top 10, falling back into the “also receiving votes” category after last Friday’s region loss to No. 4 Cane Bay.
Beaufort (5-2) hurt itself with a pair of first-half turnovers against Cane Bay, as the Eagles saw their first game action since Hurricane Matthew. Cane Bay built a 28-7 lead by halftime, then held on as the Eagles mounted a comeback threat.
Beaufort had a chance to tie late in the third quarter, but a high snap inside Cane Bay’s 5-yard line led to a big loss. A penalty also wiped out what would have been a tying TD run.
Unbeaten Bluffton marked its eighth consecutive week at No. 2 in Class 3A, tucked in behind No. 1 Dillon in voting by voting by the S.C. Prep Media Football Poll’s 12-member panel. The Bobcats (7-0) will end a 27-day hiatus on Friday when Ridgeland-Hardeeville arrives for a region clash.
