Impressively idle: Beaufort moves into top 10 of Class 4A rankings
Despite not playing a competitive down since the end of September, Beaufort has found its way into the top 10 of the Class 4A football rankings for the first time all season.
The Eagles (5-1) are ninth in the latest voting by the S.C. Prep Media Football Poll’s 12-member panel, jumping into the list after two weeks in the “also receiving votes” category. Beaufort last was seen Sept. 30 in a 60-7 romp over R.B. Stall, before Hurricane Matthew wiped out the next two Fridays of play.
Unbeaten Bluffton remains No. 2 in the Class 3A rankings, tucked in behind No. 1 Dillon for the seventh consecutive week. The Bobcats (7-0) are guaranteed another week without blemish, too, with an open date coming on the heels of the hurricane break.
Bluffton will go 27 days between games before hosting Ridgeland-Hardeeville next week.
Beaufort has played just once in a four-week span, with its open date coming just before the win over Stall. The Eagles, whose only loss came against Bluffton, moved into the opening created when former No. 7 Greer was beaten last Friday by Greenville.
Beaufort travels this week to fourth-ranked Cane Bay in a critical Region 8-4A clash.
No other area schools received votes in this week’s balloting.
