Bluffton remains No. 2 in Class 3A rankings, looking at 3-week break
Bluffton remains No. 2 in the Class 3A football rankings for a sixth consecutive week, with two more unbeaten weeks now guaranteed in the polls as Lowcountry schools face a second consecutive Friday of postponements caused by Hurricane Matthew.
The Bobcats (7-0) last hit the field in a 50-0 romp over May River on Sept. 30, in which D.J. Chappelear’s nine field goals tied a national record. Dillon, in pursuit of a fifth consecutive state title, has been atop the rankings all season in voting by the S.C. Prep Media Football Poll’s 12-member panel.
Bluffton has an open date next week, meaning the Bobcats will go an astounding 27 days between games before teeing it up again Oct. 28 against Ridgeland-Hardeeville in what was supposed to be the regular season finale.
Beaufort (5-1) once again is listed under “also receiving votes” in the Class 4A rankings. No other area schools received votes in this week’s balloting.
