Bluffton will spend a fifth consecutive week at No.2 in the Class 3A football rankings, assured of staying unbeaten another week with its unscheduled open date prompted by evacuations ahead of Hurricane Matthew.
The Bobcats moved to 7-0 with last week’s 50-0 romp over May River, in which D.J. Chappelear’s nine field goals tied a 26-year national record. Dillon, seeking a fifth consecutive state title, has held the top spot all season in voting by the S.C. Prep Media Football Poll’s 12-member panel.
Bluffton’s homecoming against Battery Creek is among dozens of games across the Lower State wiped out by this week’s hurricane preparations. The High School League announced Wednesday that this week’s games will be made up Nov. 4.
Beaufort (5-1) is now listed under “also receiving votes” in the Class 4A rankings following last week’s 60-7 thumping of R.B. Stall. The Eagles may have picked up Hilton Head Island’s support, as the Seahawks (4-2) no longer get mention after their 63-28 loss to Berkeley.
No other area schools received votes in this week’s balloting.
