Jaguars’ Kamrin Williams back from hospital after Friday collision
Ridgeland-Hardeeville back Kamrin Williams, who left the Jaguars’ game at Hilton Head Island in an ambulance after experiencing numbness following a sideline collision, was back home Saturday after being released from a Savannah hospital.
Jasper County athletics director Michael Jordan said Williams was released late Friday night, hours after the second-quarter collision that halted the Jaguars-Seahawks game for some 20 minutes. He was taken to Savannah Memorial Hospital for examination.
“From what I understand, there were no fractures or anything of that nature,” Jordan said Saturday.
Williams will undergo further testing with the Jaguars’ team doctor, George Sutherland, to determine his next steps. The senior will be held out of athletic activities until receiving clearance from Sutherland, Jordan said.
“We’re going to be very careful with him,” Jordan said.
Williams, a two-way starter for the Jaguars, was hurt on defense near the Hilton Head sideline while trying chase down Seahawks quarterback Bryce Singleton on an extended play.
Singleton rolled right in what appeared to be a called pass, reversed field and scampered near the left sideline. Then he reversed again and came all the way back to the opposite sideline to deliver an incomplete pass just before contact.
Williams stayed down amid a crowd of Hilton Head players before coaches alerted officials to the injury. Jordan noted some of the numbness had started to wear off by the time Williams was put on a back brace and readied for the ambulance.
The Seahawks, who led 10-0 at the time of the injury, scored on five of seven possessions afterward on the way to a 50-0 victory.
“We’re young, and just trying to get the guys to stay focused can be hard,” RHHS coach Jahmaal Nelson said. “We’re a family, and they care about their brother.”
Jordan also commended the Hilton Head Island trainers and fans for their actions while Williams was down. The player received a long ovation when he raised his hand to teammates just before leaving the field.
“Great kudos to their fans,” Jordan said. “There was even a gentleman who was part of the chain crew, he asked (Williams’) name so he could say a prayer for him. We have a great deal of appreciation for the concern they showed him.”
