Hilton Head Island names new girls basketball coach
May River assistant Russell Raniszewski was named the new girls basketball coach at Hilton Head Island on Thursday, the school announced.
Raniszewski replaces Sean Rochester, who stepped down after five seasons and led the Seahawks to two region championships.
This will be Raniszewski’s second head coaching job and he brings almost two decades of experience to the Hilton Head Island program. He was head coach for Hannah-Pamplico girls team in 2016-17 and was an assistant coach for 10 years with the West Florence girls basketball program.
Raniszewski also was an assistant coach at Darlington High School and spent last year as an assistant for the May River boys basketball program.
The Seahawks are coming off an 11-14 season. HHI loses two seniors, including leading scorer Miley Ray, but returns a bulk of its lineup.
