Whale Branch boys move into lower final. Beaufort Academy, HHCA girls advance in SCISA playoffs

The Whale Branch boys basketball team moved one step closer to playing for a state title.

Led by Wofford signee Nick Pringle’s 12 points, the Warriors defeated Oceanside Collegiate, 44-38, on Tuesday in Class 2A Lower State semifinals.

Whale Branch plays North Charleston for the Lower State championship Saturday at the Florence Center beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The game was tied at 33 going into the fourth quarter but the Warriors outscored the Landsharks, 11-5, in the final eight minutes.Shawn Chisolm chipped in with nine points for Whale Branch.

Girls Basketball

Beaufort Academy 60, Richard Winn 41

The Eagles rolled into the SCISA Class A semifinals with a win over Richard Winn.

Mike’Ala Washington, one of three players in double figures, led Beaufort Academy with 17 points. Tahleea Heyward had 14 and EmilyAnn Hiers scored 13

The Eagles play Patrick Henry in the semifinals Thursday at Wilson Hall beginning at 6 p.m.

Hilton Head Christian 75, Spartanburg Day 23

Hilton Head Christian moved into the SCISA 2A semifinals with a blowout win over Spartanburg Day.

HHCA plays Oakbrook Prep in the semifinals Thursday at the Sumter Civic Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Dior Shelton had a team-high 25 for the Eagles. Jasmine Campbell scored 15 and Brielle McCarthy added 12.

Oakbrook Prep 41, Hilton Head Prep 27

Abbie Bishop scored 14 points and Daja Taylor had 13 as Oakbrook ended Hilton Head Prep’s season.

It was Oakbrook’s first second-round playoff win.

Palmetto Christian 57, John Paul II 53

Tkai Devore had 32 points, 10 rebounds and six steals in her final high school game for John Paul II.

Abby Quinty added 12 for the Warriors.
