Friday Roundup: May River basketball sweeps Hilton Head Island
May River squandered a big halftime lead but held its composure in defeating Hilton Head, 48-45, in boys high school basketball on Friday.
Harry Cash led May River with 15 points and Andrew Merseberger had 10, including eight in the second half.
The Sharks led 34-21 at halftime but Hilton Head Island outscred them 19-4 in the third to lead 40-38 going into the fourth. With the score tied at 45, Jamie Green hit a jumper and then a free throw to put May River up 48-45. The Seahawks missed a game-tying 3-pointer as time expired.
Jaylen Sneed, Dean Seelbach and Adam Clark each had nine points to lead Hilton Head Island.
Palmetto Christian 43, John Paul II 33
John Paul II dropped to 3-2 with a loss at Palmetto.
Malone Kinard Huisinger led JPII with 17 Points and seven rebounds. Reco Anderson added 10 points and six rebounds.
Hilton Head Prep 44, Cathedral Academy 40
Hilton Head Prep rallied from a seven-point deficit in the third quarter for the win.
Tyrone Calloway led the Dolphins with 14 points, and Luke Foley had 11 points.

May River 60, Hilton Head Island 14
May River jumped out to a 26-5 lead after the first quarter and went on for the blowout win.
Emma Peluso led the Sharks with 21 points and Chynna Sneed had 12. Jordan Bigham and senior Olivia Peluso each had eight for May River.
Chyna Fields and Kenzie Ryan led the Seahawks with four points each.
Whale Branch 40, Beaufort 35
Zhani Thompson scored 13 points, and Kynew Barnwell had 10 to lead the Warriors past the Eagles.
Layla Warren led Beaufort with 24 points followed by Sequoia Smalls with eight.
John Paul II 47, Palmetto Christian 35
