Lowcountry roundup: Ridgeland-Hardeeville girls advance in Class 3A playoffs

Que Drayton scored 20 points to help the Ridgeland-Hardeeville girls move on in the postseason with a 48-44 win over Strom Thurmond in the Class 3A playoffs Thursday night.

The Jaguars host defending state champion Bishop England on Monday in third round with the winner advancing to the Lower State championship Feb. 24 at the Florence Civic Center. Bishop England defeated R-H in the Lower State championship last year and in the 2015 Lower State semifinals.

Marlaysia Westbrook added 12 points for the Jags, who survived a late charge from the Rebels. Strom Thurmond trailed 46-44 with less than 20 seconds left and were fouled on a three-point attempt. But the Rebels missed all three free-throw attempts.

Cyntheria Sullivan led ST with 15 points.

Swansea 57, Battery Creek 46

Class 3A Player of Year Danae McNeal scored 22 of her game-high 31 points in the first half as the Tigers defeated the Dolphins in the second round of the 3A playoffs.

Swansea hosts Dillon in the third round Monday.

Coresha Rutledge led Battery Creek with 15 points and Kevea Sanders added 14.
