Lowcountry roundup: Hilton Head Prep boys win 14th straight game
Hilton Head Prep boys extended their winning streak to 14 games with a 55-24 win over Hilton Head Christian on Friday in high school basketball action.
HHP (22-1, 13-0) outscored HHCA, 37-17, in the second half. Avern Montaque led the team with 19 points. Haddith Stewart had 17 points. Stone McDonald led the team in rebounds with eight.
John Paul 67, Thomas Heyward 59
The Warriors wrapped a top four finish in the region and secured the school’s first trip to the state tournament.
Pairings will be announced for SCISA state tournament next week.
Freshmen Amere Cherry finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds and fellow freshmen posts Sam Summa and Malone Huisinger combined for 18 points, 15 rebounds, five steals and four blocks.
GIRLS
John Paul II 39, Thomas Heyward 35
Abigail Barker had a big nigh with 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Warriors captured their 20th victory for the first time in school history.
Tkai Devore added 10 points and Abby Quinty had seven. Devore’s two free throws put JP II up 34-33 with 3:07 left.
Beaufort Academy 61, St. Andrews 35
Karolina Struharova scored 24 points and Amelia Huebel added 11 in the win for the Eagles.
Beaufort Academy finished the regular season at 13-7 and 8-4 in region.
