Lowcountry roundup: Butler’s big night helps Ridgeland-Hardeeville remain unbeaten

Rashamel Butler came close to a triple-double as No. 1 Ridgeland-Hardeeville defeated May River, 61-52, on Friday in boys high school basketball action.

Butler finished with 37 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Jaguars (17-0, 5-0).

Dequandre Hamilton added five points and 10 rebounds for R-H.

Hilton Head Prep 59, Beaufort Academy 35

Hilton Head Prep (17-1, 8-0) broke open a close game by outscoring Beaufort Academy, 24-3, in the third quarter.

Stone McDonald poured in 10 points and had 11 rebounds for the Dolphins. Avern Montaque scored 12 points and added six rebounds. Haddith Stewart and Tyrone Calloway both chipped in with 11 points each.

John Paul II 71, Colleton Prep 50

The Warriors moved to to 5-2 in region play with an easy win over Colleton Prep.

Freshman Amere Cherry’s 18 points led John Paul II while freshman Sam Summa had 13 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Melik Frost scored six points and had nine steals.

Berkeley 78, Hilton Head Island 29

Ephraim Butler poured in a game-high 30 points for Berkeley.

The Stags; Ishan White added 16 points and Trevur Smalls scored 12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

May River 43, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 37

Chynna Sneed scored 12 points and Jordan Bigham had 11 as the Sharks (9-9, 2-3) handed the Jaguars their first region loss.

Quanajia Drayton and Timothea Green each had 12 points to lead R-H (10-3, 4-1)

Battery Creek 48, Bluffton 32

Trinity Coney scored 17 points and Taquasia Lampkin had 10 points and eight rebounds for Battery Creek (15-4)

BC: Kevea Sanders 6, Trinity Coney 17, Starr Reed 6, Kendrianna Shojgreen 3, Taquasia Lampkin 10, Coresha Rutledge 6.

John Paul II 41, Colleton Prep 38

Takai Devore’s basket with less than 30 seconds proved to be the deciding score for the Warriors.

Devore’s shot put JP II up 39-38 with 26.4 seconds left and then she hit a pair of free throws with 4.4 seconds left. She finished with 26 points, and Abigail Barker had six.

Beaufort Academy 29, Hilton Head Prep 26

Kendall Duncan and Karolina Strharova each had 10 points for Beaufort Academy (11-4, 6-1).
