Lowcountry roundup: Hilton Head Island boys roll past Beaufort

Hilton Head Island broke open a close game with a big second half in the 73-44 win over Beaufort on Tuesday in boys basketball action.

The Seahawks outscored the Eagles, 38-17, over the final two quarters. Chris Washington led Hilton Head with 21 points while Lance Jackson had 17 and Trevor Wright added 16.

Ethan Leanz led Beaufort with 16 points and Dajon Galloway scored 12.

Hilton Head Prep 73, Thomas Heyward 28

Hilton Head Prep cruised to its 15th victory of the season.

Haddith Stewart led the Dolphins (15-1, 6-0) with 14 points and four boards. Tyler Rice scored 12 points off the bench and grabbed six rebounds. Avern Montague had 12 points and pulled down a team-high eight boards.

Hilton Head Christian 38, St. Andrews 35

Daniel Harrington had a game-high 13 points in HHCA’s win.

Lukas O’Grady added seven points and 10 boards.

Bethesda Academy 64, John Paul II 54

Rashad Battiste scored 18 and Nyleem Wright had 16 in the loss for the Warriors (8-10, 4-2)

Beaufort Academy 54, Colleton Prep 33

Dawson Coleman poured in a game-high 23 points in the win for Beaufort Academy.

BA led wire-to-wire in completing the season sweep. David Matthai added 10 points for the Eagles.

GIRLS

Beaufort Academy 45, Colleton Prep 35

Amelia Huebel and Kendall Duncan each had 13 points for Beaufort Academy (10-4, 5-1).

Emily Ann Hiers added 10 points and Karolina Struhorova had nine.

Battery Creek 44, Wade Hampton 30

Taquasia Lampkin scored 18 points, had seven rebounds and Coresha Rutledge had 14 points, five rebounds for the seventh-ranked Dolphins (14-4).

BC: Sanders 2, Coney 2, Reed 4, Shojgreen 1, Taquasia Lampkin 18, Bartley 2, Coresha Rutledge 14.

Beaufort 32, Hilton Head Island 21

Brittany Linton led Beaufort with nine points in the win over Hilton Head.

Darien Watkins chipped in with seven, and Jahniya Lynch had seven for the Eagles (9-8, 3-2).

Miley Ray had eight points to lead Hilton Head.

Hilton Head Prep 34, Thomas Heyward 26

Mackenzie Joyner led the way with 14 points and five rebounds as the Dolphins (4-10, 1-4) picked up their first region home victory.

Guard Kierstin Clark played a great all around game with nine points, 10 assists, seven steals and five rebounds. Senior Alana McCallion pulled down nine rebounds.

Hilton Head Christian 63, St. Andrews 20

HHCA jumped out to a 23-2 lead on its way to the easy win.

Jasmine Campbell led the way with 11 points and Jossie Frazier added 10. Brielle McCarthy and Dior Shelton each added eight.
