Lowcountry roundup: Cherry’s triple-double helps John Paul II boys past Colleton Prep

Freshman Amere Cherry recorded the first triple-double in school history as John Paul II defeated Colleton Prep, 53-26, on Saturday in boys basketball action.

Cherry finished with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

John Paul II 39, Colleton Prep 37

Tkai Devore scored 29 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had eight steals for John Paul II Abigail Barker added six points for JP II, which took the lead with 1:15 left in the game.

May River 51, Phillip Simmons 30

Chynna Sneed and Gracyn Drury each scored 11 points in May River’s win.

Beaufort 36, Cane Bay 34

Lillian Summer hit the game-winner at the buzzer to give Beaufort a win over Cane Bay on Friday.

Brittany Linton led Beaufort (8-8, 2-2) with 13 points, and Layla Warren had eight.
