Lowcountry roundup: Battiste sets school record in John Paul II victory

John Paul II 81, Thomas Heyward 62

Junior Rashad Battiste set a new school record with 39 points as John Paul II defeated Thomas Heyward, 81-62, on Tuesday.

Senior Nyleem Wright chipped in with 15 for JPII.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville 75, Wade Hampton 57

Rashamel Butler scored 33 points as the Jaguars ran their record to 15-0.

Devin Butler scored 21 points for Ridgeland-Hardeeville.

May River 77, Battery Creek 31

Ryan Livingston led four May River players in double figures with 25 points.

Camden Davis added 17 points, Deshawn Martin had 11 and Jack Hegan scored 10 for the Sharks (7-3, 1-1).

May River used a 12-0 run in third quarter to pull away for the win.

Hilton Head Prep 68, Hilton Head Christian 31

Haddith Stewart scored 19 and Tyrone Calloway added 16 for the Dolphins (13-1).

Avern Montaque had nine points and six rebounds and Jack Braun came off the bench to lead the team in rebounding with seven.

Colleton County 71, Hilton Head 57

Nyeem Green scored 26 points in Colleton County’s win over the Seahawks.

Colleton County outscored Hilton Head 20-5 in the fourth quarter.

GIRLS

Beaufort Academy 47, St. Andrews 29

Emily Ann Hiers and Amelia Huebel each had 11 points for the Eagles (8-4, 3-1).

BA: Becca Frelin 7, Kendall Duncan 9, Mary Hanna Hiers 2, Emily Ann Hiers 11, Amelia Huebel 11, Karolina Struhorova 5, Riley Gates 2.

Hilton Head Christian 46, Hilton Head Prep 14

HHCA (11-1) outscored Hilton Head Prep 29-4 in the second half for the easy win.

Jasmine Campbell led the way with 14 and Brielle McCarthy added 13. Jossie Frazier chipped in with 9 and Dior Shelton had 6.

Ella Clark had 8 and Kiersten Clark added 6 for HHP.

Battery Creek 43, May River 32

Kevea Sanders scored 17 points to lead Battery Creek (13-3) past May River.

Jordan Bigham, Chynna Sneed and Lyndsey Olds each scored six points for the Sharks.

BC: Kevea Sanders 17, Trinity Coney 2, Starr Reed 1, Kendrianna Shojgreen 4, Taquasia Lampkin 8, Daje Bartley 2 Coresha Rutledge 6.

John Paul II 56, Thomas Heyward 30

Tkai Devore scored 17 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and had four steals for John Paul II.

Jasmine Hamilton added 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Mary Foster Gaillard had seven points, Katie Leigh Floyd had six and Ayannah Thompson had five.

Colleton County 35, Hilton Head 32

Colleton County hit a 3-pointer with less than 20 seconds left for the victory.

Miley Ray scored 19 points to lead the Seahawks, while Kristen Fielding added six.

Bluffton 51, South Effingham 44

Judaah Mitchell scored 18 points to lead three Bluffton players in double figures.

Tatyana Aiken scored 14, and Kennedy Barber added 11 for the Bobcats.

WRESTLING

John Paul II drops pair of matches

John Paul II lost two matches to Cardinal Newman, 47-21, and Bishop England, 48-24, on Tuesday.

Nathan Riley and Jonathan Field won both of their matches for the Warriors.
