Lowcountry roundup: Hilton Head Prep stays unbeaten
Hilton Head Prep improved to 7-0 with a 76-32 victory over the Coastal Hurricanes on Thursday in boys high school basketball action.
Tyrone Calloway and Haddith Stewart both had 20 points while Calloway also had seven rebounds. Avern Montaque had 19 points and nine rebounds. Stone McDonald chipped in with nine points.
The Dolphins led 39-16 at halftime.
Memorial Day 55, Hilton Head Christian Academy 40
Floyd Hargrove scored 16 points and Daniel Harrington added eight points in loss for HHCA.
GIRLS
Hilton Head Prep 30, Coastal 24
The Dolphins outscored Coastal 9-4 in the third quarter on their way to their second win of the season.
Ella Clark led Hilton Head Christian with 19 points.
Hilton Head Christian Academy 39 Memorial Day 8
The Eagles won their final game before the holiday break.
HHCA (7-1) was led by 8th grader Ady O'Grady with eight points and freshman Dior Shelton with seven.
WRESTLING
May River takes down West Ashley
May River wrestling team picked up a 38-33 win over West Ashley.
Ryan Humel sealed the win with a pin in the final match.
Beaufort defeated May River, 48-33, in the other match Thursday.
Hilton Head wins two matches
On Wednesday the Hilton Head Island Seahawk Wrestling Team traveled to Battery Creek to compete in two dual meets against St. John’s and Battery Creek. In round one, the Seahawks defeated St. John’s 66-6. In the second round, the Seahawks posted a 54-22 victory over Battery Creek.
Leading the way for the Seahawks in competitive matches were James Roberts (138), Alex Braden (145) and Gerardo Lopez (Heavyweight) with two pins each. Ethan Meselam (113), Billie Christie (182) and RaCall Base (160) also recorded pins. The Seahawks will travel to the Wilddcat Invitational at Richmond Hill on Friday and Saturday.
