Lowcountry roundup: Beaufort Academy teams win region openers

Sophomore Dawson Coleman scored 20 points as Beaufort Academy won its region opener by defeating Colleton Prep 45-36 on Wednesday in boys basketball action.

Eighth grader Rowan Higgins added 10 for BA and hit five free throws down the stretch. William Tumlin scored nine for the Eagles.

Pinewood Prep 69, John Paul II 52

Pinewood Prep outscored JP II 20-10 in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Rashad Battiste finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds for John Paul II. Freshman Amere Cherry added 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

GIRLS

Beaufort Academy 45, Colleton Prep 37

Becca Frelin scored 19 points as the Eagles held on to win their region opener.

BA led by as many as 14 points and Colleton Prep cut the lead to two before pulling away.

Pinewood Prep 41, John Paul II 25

Tkai Devore had 11 points and 12 rebounds in the loss for JP II.

Lexie McIntosh added seven points, and Abby Quinty had five.
