Lowcountry basketball roundup: Hilton Head boys hold on for win over May River

Hilton Head’s Davis Malloy blocked Josh Patterson’s shot in the closing seconds as the Seahawks held on for a 51-50 win over May River in boys high school basketball action Friday.

Trevor Wright had 12 points to lead Hilton Head. Chris Washington added 11.

Ryan Livingston led May River with 21 points, while Patterson scored 14.

Hilton Head Prep 60, Memorial Day 40

The Dolphins outscored Memorial Day 37-15 in the first half on their way to their fifth victory.

Avern Montaque had 14 points and also led the team with seven rebounds. Tyler Rice had 13 points and five rebounds and Ian Plummer had 12. Stone McDonald had 11 points and five boards.

John Paul II 84, Habersham 50

Thomas Kender and Nyleem Wright each had double-doubles in the win.

Kender finished with 13 pts and 10 rebounds, while Wright had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Sam Summa had eight points and 12 rebounds.

Thomas Heyward 78, Holly Hill 47

The Rebels won their fifth straight game with a blowout victory.

Bobby Payne scored 14 points, Bryce Tillotson added 12 and Trace Lowther chipped in with 10 for THA.

Battery Creek 54, Beaufort 41

Trey Chancey scored 17 points as Battery Creek completed the sweep over Beaufort.

Thursday

Bluffton 66, South Effingham 58

Jermaine Patterson scored 25 points, had three steals and two assists in the Bobcats’ overtime win.

Donovan Raines added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Bobcats while Ramell Rivers had 12 points.

South Effingham’s Darius Scott led all scorers with 31.

GIRLS

Battery Creek 40, Beaufort 22

Kevea Sanders scored 17 points as Battery Creek moved to 5-0 on the season.

Trinity Coney had six points and a team-high eight rebounds.

May River 39, Hilton Head 34

Chyna Sneed scored a game-high 19 points in the Sharks’ win over Hilton Head.

Jordan Bigham chipped with nine for May River, which moved to 2-2 on the season.

John Paul II 53, Habersham 22

Tkai Devore scored 21 points, had 15 rebounds and six steals for John Paul II.

Jasmine Hamilton chipped in with 11 points and five steals while Katie Leigh Floyd had six points and six assists. Lexie McIntosh had five points and four rebounds. Ayannah Thompson had four points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

Hilton Head Prep 38, Memorial Day 5

Ella Clark had 16 points and 11 steals to lead the Dolphins to their first win. Mackenzie Joyner chipped in with nine points and six steals.

Thomas Heyward 53, Holly Hill 34

Olivia Pace, Bayli Belger and Chelsea Schroeder each had 10 points as Thomas Heyward ran its record to 8-0 on the season.

Palmetto Christian 53, Hilton Head Christian 49 (OT)

Jossie Frazier led the way with 18 and Cortney Gray added 14 in the overtime loss for HHCA.

Thursday

Bluffton 50, South Effingham 31

Tatyana Aiken poured in a game-high 25 points in the Bobcats’ win.

Kennedy Barber added 10 and Juddah Mitchell had seven.
