Late 3-pointer lifts Hilton Head boys past May River in seesaw finish
Trevor Wright drained a 3-pointer from the right corner with 6.8 seconds to play Tuesday night, lifting Hilton Head Island to a 66-64 boys basketball victory Monday night over May River.
May River held a 64-63 lead at the end of a five-point sequence with 13 seconds left, as Ryan Livingston drained a 3-pointer, was fouled and Qwailei Turner put back the missed free throw to push the Sharks in front.
After a May River timeout, Hilton Head’s Lance Jackson brought the ball past midcourt and found Wright on the wing for the go-ahead basket. The Sharks used their last timeout to set up a potential tying shot, but Livingston’s attempt bounced off the rim.
Bryce Singleton scored 28 points to pace the Seahawks (3-0), while Hayden Schwartz added 10 points. Livingston and Avern Montaque each scored 14 points to lead May River (2-2), with Turner and Isaiah Byam each adding 12.
