High school basketball result: Bluffton girls at Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island 43, Bluffton 42: Kamryn Jackson weaved downcourt after a missed Bluffton free throw for a layup with seven seconds left, providing the winning points as the Seahawks moved to 2-0 following last year’s winless campaign.

The Seahawks trailed by one with 17.4 seconds left when Jasmine Campbell grabbed Bluffton’s missed free throw and got the ball out to Jackson, who maneuvered her way through traffic to the hoop. The Bobcats’ final shot missed, sealing the outcome.

“I’m so proud of my girls,” said Seahawks coach Sean Rochester, whose team endured an 0-23 season a year ago.

“We just found a way to make one more play at the end. Kamryn took that pass and just found a way to kiss it off the glass for the game winner. It’s the best basketball finish I’ve seen since Michael Julian hit a buzzer beater against Bluffton a few years ago.”

Campbell led Hilton Head with 14 points, while Jackson finished the night with 12. Bluffton’s Diane Sargent led all scorers with 16 points.
