High school basketball result: John Paul II boys vs. Colleton Prep

John Paul II 67, Colleton Prep 46: Karl Johnson scored 23 points and Rashad Battiste added 20 as John Paul II ran past the bigger Colleton Prep lineup to knock off the hosts in the opening round of the War Hawk Invitational in Walterboro.

Battiste came up just short of a double-double with nine rebounds on the night, while Johnson added eight rebounds and seven steals to his totals.

“We played really well against a team with the most size we will see all year,” Golden Warriors coach Stacy Benedik said. “We were able to get into transition and get the speed of the game up, and their bigs had some trouble with that.”

Though Colleton Prep closed the gap in the third quarter, JP2 was able to stretch the lead out to 20 late in the game. Nyleem Wright added 17 points and six assists for the Golden Warriors.
