State title game time, location announced for Hilton Head Prep baseball

Hilton Head Prep baseball will face Calhoun Academy – the defending SCISA Class 2-A state champions – in the decisive final game of the best-of-three-games series tonight at a neutral site in Manning.

The Dolphins and Cavaliers play at 6 p.m. Thursday at Lawrence Manning Academy, located at 1154 Academy Dr. in Manning.

Prep took the first game of the series 5-0 on Monday night at Calhoun’s home field in St. Matthews. Tyler Fox fanned 11 batters and scattered five Calhoun hits to pick up the win.

In Game 2 the Dolphins, playing at home, found themselves down 3-1 in the bottom half of the final inning. They managed to load the bases with no outs, and Tyler Fox’s sacrifice fly pulled Prep within one run. But Calhoun’s Robert Lewis, who pitched a complete game, induced a game-ending, double-play ground ball. Calhoun escaped with a 3-2 win to even the series.

Reese Irwin will start on the mound for the Dolphins in Game 3.

Prep, having won a coin toss after Wednesday night’s loss, will be designated the home team and have the last at-bat.
