Bobcats coach Bob Brown honored by USTA for no-cut policy

Bluffton High coach Bob Brown is one of 10 “no-cut” coaches honored by the U.S. Tennis Association for their success with programs that welcome all interested students to become part of the tennis team.

The Bluffton girls captured the school’s eighth girls’ regional this fall, reaching the second round of the Class 3A playoffs before getting upended by Waccamaw. The girls also reached last year’s Lower State final for the first time before being ousted by Wando.

The Bluffton boys have reached the Lower State final once. Brown, who has been at Bluffton since the school opened in 2004, estimates he’s coached more than 2,000 players in all.

Coaches are nominated by their respective USTA section. To qualify, coaches must have at least five years of experience, implement a no-cut policy on their tennis teams and be registered with the USTA as a “no-cut” coach.
